Ford Tempo Alternator Installation Instructions

1. Disconnect the adverse terminal on the battery. Take away the accent belt. If it is a v-belt, loosen the adjusting bolt with a three/8-inch drive ratchet and a socket. Allow the alternator to swivel to launch tension of the belt. Take away the belt from the pulley, however don’t remove it from the vehicle. If it’s a serpentine belt, use a wrench to move the tensioner away from the belt, releasing the strain so the belt could be removed.
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the alternator. Remove the two bolts within the alternator and take away the alternator.
3. Install the new alternator with the 2 bolts and loosely tighten them for the moment. Connect the electrical connectors on the rear of the alternator.
4. Put the belt on the alternator pulley. Pull the alternator again to apply stress to the v-belt and tighten the adjuster bolt to hold the alternator in place. Tighten both bolts, prime and bottom. If it is a serpentine belt system, use the wrench to move the tensioner away from the belt as it is installed. Allow the tensioner to use stress to the belt.
